Apple implemented a feature in Safari last year that allows users to disable cross-site tracking. This was called Intelligent Tracking Prevention (version 1.1)
Mozilla Firefox, likewise, has an option to turn on tracking protection and resist fingerprinting (through about:config)
Firefox also has add-ons to prevent tracking cookies (such as Facebook ‘like’ buttons) from following you around. They are called containers -
What Apple has done with macOS Mojave is to build something akin to containers so that a website’s tracking ability is effectively sandboxed and left to users’ discretion. But yes, it’s limited to Safari users.
However it is also to be noted that, Tor Project is looking at integrating Tor directly into Firefox.
Hope this answer helps!
